Movable Portions of the Liturgy

Tone 2 Troparion        (Resurrection)

When Thou didst descend to death, O Life immortal,/ Thou didst slay hell with the splendor of Thy Godhead./ And when from the depths Thou didst raise the dead,/ all the powers of heaven cried out:// “O Giver of life, Christ our God, glory to Thee!”

Tone 4 Troparion Protection of the Mother of God

Today the faithful celebrate the feast with joy,/ illumined by your coming, O Mother of God./ Beholding your pure image, we fervently cry to you:/ “Encompass us beneath the precious veil of your protection./ Deliver us from every form of evil,/ by entreating Christ, your Son and our God,// that He may save our souls!”

Tone 4 Troparion        (for the Martyrs Sergius and Bacchus)

Your holy martyrs Sergius and Bacchus, O Lord,/ through their sufferings have received incorruptible crowns from You, our God./ For having Your strength, they laid low their adversaries,/ and shattered the powerless boldness of demons.// Through their intercessions, save our souls!

Tone 2 Kontakion       (Resurrection)

Hell became afraid, O almighty Savior,/ seeing the miracle of Thy Resurrection from the tomb!/ The dead arose! Creation, with Adam, beheld this and rejoiced with Thee,//  and the world, my Savior, praises Thee forever.

Glory… Tone 2          Kontakion       (Martyrs Sergius and Bacchus)

Having courageously confronted the Enemy,/ you brought his guiles to an end, and received from on high the crown of victory./ Illustrious martyrs, Sergius and Bacchus,/ with one heart you cry aloud:// “How good and pleasant it is to dwell with God!”

Now and Ever… Tone 3 Kontakion Protection of the Mother of God

The Virgin is present today in the Church/ And with the fellowship of saints she prays to God on our behalf. / The angels and the bishops worship! / The apostles and the prophets make glad!// For the Theotokos makes supplications for us to the everlasting God!

TRISAGION: (Slavonic-Serbian): Sveti Bože, Sveti Krepki, Sveti Besmrtni, pomiluj nas.

PROKEIMENON (Literally: “What is to be set forth”) (Tone 2) The Lord is my strength and my song/ He has become my salvation. Vs. The Lord has chastened me sorely, but He has not given me over to death (Ps. 117:14,18)

EPISTLE: 2 Corinthians 11:31-12:9 Brethren,  31The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is blessed forever, knows that I am not lying. 32In Damascus the governor, under Aretas the king, was guarding the city of the Damascenes with a garrison, desiring to arrest me; 33but I was let down in a basket through a window in the wall, and escaped from his hands.12 1It is doubtless not profitable for me to boast. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord: 2I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago—whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows—such a one was caught up to the third heaven. 3And I know such a man—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows— 4how he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. 5Of such a one I will boast; yet of myself I will not boast, except in my infirmities. 6For though I might desire to boast, I will not be a fool; for I will speak the truth. But I refrain, lest anyone should think of me above what he sees me to be or hears from me.7And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. 8Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. 9And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Alleluia: May the Lord hear thee in the day of trouble! May the name of the God of Jacob protect thee! Vs. Save the King, O Lord, and hear us on the day we call! GOSPEL: Luke 7:11-16

11Now it happened, the day after, that He went into a city called Nain; and many of His disciples went with Him, and a large crowd. 12And when He came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her. 13When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” 14Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” 15So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother. 16Then fear came upon all, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has risen up among us”; and, “God has visited His people.”

Communion Hymns: Praise the Lord from the heavens, praise Him in the highest! (Ps 148:1)
