Movable Portions of the Liturgy

Tone 1 Troparion        (Resurrection)

When the stone had been sealed by the Jews,/ while the soldiers were guarding Thy most pure body,/ Thou didst rise on the third day, O Savior,/ granting life to the world./ The powers of heaven therefore cried to Thee, O Giver of Life:/ “Glory to Thy Resurrection, O Christ!/ Glory to Thy ^Kingdom!// Glory to Thy dispensation, O Thou who lovest of mankind!”

Tone 4 Troparion Protection of the Mother of God

Today the faithful celebrate the feast with joy,/ illumined by your coming, O Mother of God./ Beholding your pure image, we fervently cry to you:/ “Encompass us beneath the precious veil of your protection./ Deliver us from every form of evil,/ by entreating Christ, your Son and our God,// that He may save our souls!”

Tone 4 Troparion        (Hieromartyr Gregory)

By sharing in the ways of the Apostles,/ you became a successor to their throne./ Through the practice of virtue, you found the way to divine contemplation, O inspired one of God;/ by teaching the word of truth without error, you defended the Faith, even to the shedding of your blood.// Hieromartyr Gregory, entreat Christ God to save our souls.

Tone 1             Kontakion     (Resurrection)

As God, Thou didst rise from the tomb in glory,/ raising the world with Thyself./ Human nature praises Thee as God, for death has vanished./ Adam exults, O Master!/ Eve rejoices, for she is freed from bondage and cries to Thee:// “Thou art the Giver of Resurrection to all, O Christ!”

Glory… Tone 2          Kontakion       (Hieromartyr Gregory)

Today, let us, the faithful, praise with songs and hymns/ the admirable hierarch Gregory as an initiate in the sacred            mysteries./ He was a contender for the truth, a vigilant pastor and teacher,/ a light for the whole world,// interceding with Christ that our souls may be saved.

Now and Ever… Tone 3 Kontakion Protection of the Mother of God

The Virgin is present today in the Church/ And with the fellowship of saints she prays to God on our behalf. / The angels and the bishops worship! / The apostles and the prophets make glad!// For the Theotokos makes supplications for us to the everlasting God!

PROKEIMENON (Literally: “What is to be set forth”) (Tone 1) Let Thy mercy be upon us/ as we have set our hope on Thee. Vs. Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous! Praise befits the just (Ps. 32)

EPISTLE: 2 Corinthians 9:6-11 Brethren, “But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. As it is written: “He has dispersed abroad, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever.” Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness, while you are enriched in everything for all liberality, which causes thanksgiving through us to God.

Alleluia: God gives vengeance unto me, and subdues people under me! Vs. He magnifies the salvation of the King and deals mercifully with David, His anointed, and his seed forever (Ps. 17)

GOSPEL: Luke 6:31-36 The Lord said, “And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise. “But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. “And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. “And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what credit is that to you? For even sinners lend to sinners to receive as much back. “But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. “Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.
